Food Court Ventilation System for major shopping centre

With more than 100 retailers and food outlets. St Johns is the largest shopping centre in Liverpool. It was built in 1969 and is a familiar site to anyone who visits Liverpool city centre! One of the main areas in the centre is the food court, which needs to be ventilated, but the elderly ventilation system was not in the best condition. Increasing numbers of breakdowns, damage to the ducting, and growing maintenance costs were causing real issues for the vendors in the food court, who were losing income every time the ventilation system was down.

St Johns decided that it would be more cost effective to replace the ventilation system than keep struggling with the old system, and approached us for a proposal. Replacement of the system was high priority as some of their big name tenants are based in the food court, which added complexity to the project as we needed to minimise down-time for these outlets.

We designed, manufactured, and installed a brand new, bespoke ventilation system to the food court. New ductwork was repositioned to improve air flow, which is a critical factor in ventilation installation and can often be overlooked. Better airflow means less pressure on other parts of the system (like ventilation fans), and can drastically improve system efficiency – which means lower running costs! Our installation team worked hard to avoid any further cosmetic damage, and the system was installed during night shifts to keep disruption to the centre to a minimum. The whole project was installed, tested and commissioned in just a little over three weeks, which is impressive for this sort of job!
