The design phase is the most important part of any HVAC system installation. This is the point at which the needs and requirements of the system are defined and the system itself specified. Getting this process right is critical to both the effectiveness of the system and the cost of both the installation and ongoing running costs, and it can be a complicated process!

HVAC SYSTEM DESIGN

There are very few commercial HVAC design situations that we haven’t experienced. Every building and project is a new challenge, but the experience we have in the team means that we will almost certainly have worked on something similar.

A thorough design process by experienced engineers:

• Decreases the risk of noisy grilles or ductwork
• Decreases the risk of low airflow at commissioning
• Ensures that the system complies with regulations
• Reduces installation costs
• Reduces running costs

We can provide quick calculations or help with the full design process, for pretty much any scenario and requirement. We work closely with a number of manufacturers to make sure that we recommend the best equipment for each project, and our engineers have undertaken specialised training on systems design; this, together with the regular technical training on new and existing product ranges, is what sets our HVAC system design services apart from non-specialist engineers.

We work directly with end-users, with their appointed main contractor or project managers, or with the project’s architect or M&E consultants.

FLEXIBLE HVAC DESIGN SUPPORT

Ideally we like to be involved as early as possible in a project, even if just as an informal conversation – we can often spot potential problems with a design from a HVAC systems perspective. This isn’t casting aspersions on other professionals involved in the project, it’s just that we are only focussed on HVAC whereas they are usually looking at the bigger picture!

Where we can be involved in a project from the outset, we work closely as part of the project team to specify the HVAC system requirements in full according the building, its dimensions and its designated end use, and see this element of the project through installation.

However, in some cases the project is already more advanced when we are asked for our expertise, and this isn’t a problem at all. We are often asked to review initial plans, calculations and system specifications to identify any areas of concern or those requiring revisiting or further amendment – if the plans are spot on we will say so, but usually there are some alterations that our experts need to suggest.

In these cases, given the performance specifications for the system we will prepare recommendations on the most appropriate supplier and products to meet the performance requirement and remain within the stipulated budgets.
